REVIVE for 2021
by: Ana Martinez-Felicano
Two years ago a friend of mine told me that she was going to have a word of the year instead of new year’s resolutions. Instead of coming up with a list of things to change or start doing at the beginning of the year, she said, pick a word that will keep you committed to a great year.
A lot of times, people will commit to resolutions and have them fall away by February. So as an English teacher, I absolutely LOVED the idea of having a word, kind of like a mantra, that you can hold in your mind to help keep you focused on the things that you want to accomplish. You can craft the word using magazines or a fun Canva template, print it and frame it for your desk or office. This serves as a reminder for whatever word you have chosen to help propel you to have your best year yet!
So when Erika said, let’s talk about a word of the year for Latina Made I said, yeeeeesss.
Our word at Latina Made Not Maid for this year is REVIVE! When you do a quick Google search (you know we like to google things lol), the word revive means - “to regain life, consciousness, or strength, give new strength or energy to” and that is exactly what we plan to do in 2021.
When we started Latina Made Not Maid, we started with the purpose of sharing the stories of Latina women across the United States and beyond, showcasing the fact that we are so much more than the awful results that the internet was giving us at the time. The brand started by featuring Latina women from coast to coast who lived their passions and fought to be seen as not only a Latina woman, but a successful and strong one.
We want to return to the essence of that, featuring everyday Latinas who continuously shatter glass ceilings. We want to share stories via our web site, continue to make a statement with our t-shirts, and create content for our social media platforms to display the successes of all Latinas.
Erika and I are not the faces of Latina Made Not Maid. You will see us every now and then, in a video, an IG live, our podcast (coming soon!), but we ARE NOT this brand. Latina Made Not Maid is a community, and we want to make sure to revive the idea that all of our voices together tell the story of the Latina women in this country.
With the year 2020 in mind, our choice makes a whole lot of sense. We are hoping to revive a whole lot of things that were put on pause during the year of quarantining. Let’s revive hope, and faith, and gratitude but more importantly, let’s revive the idea that we are all here to help each other grow and thrive.
