Occupation and/or Title: Owner of Utopia Salon & Day Spa, Co-Founder of RezoCut
As a proud, Colombian Latina woman, I have worked very hard for the last 40 years to help empower women. I am in the beauty industry, where everything is determined by what someone wears and how they look. And for some time now, I have felt that curly girls are beautiful, and my mission is I want to remind them of that. Society has told them they were not pretty enough. They were not accepted. So to show them love and self esteem is my goal. Everyday I tell my beautiful curly girls how unique and special they are.
Building my business has not been easy but determination, faith, and what you believe is the secret of success. I was raised by two wonderful parents that taught me that whatever I did had to be done with love and purpose. Today I am proud to say that I have a staff of 32 people who are my family and I depend on them as a part of the wonderful Utopia Salon family.
What have been your struggles as a Latina?
I have been discriminated against because of my accent and for being a Latina woman. My opinions were not always valued by the Chamber of Commerce. But perseverance is the key to hard work, and it has helped me build respect in our community.
What does Latina Made mean to you?
It means the world! This is a door for us to communicate and let the universe know how strong we really are.
What made you who you are today?
I believe that when a door closes on you it is because so many are ready to be opened.
Creating goals and hard work turns them into reality!
What advice would you give to young Latinas in our community?
Never let any one be in the driver seat, but you! You are in control and believe with no doubt in your mind that you are already a winner!
