Current state: New Jersey
Occupation and/or Title: CEO/Founder of Spa on the Go
I’m American-born and Dominican-raised, first generation. You could always catch me in my mom’s salon as a child, sweeping the floor and assisting to the staff’s needs. Growing up in my mom’s salon was molding me for my future in becoming an entrepreneur myself.
My hobbies are working out, going on walks, outings with my kids and reading. Many of my set backs have been starting a business and not doing the correct research and not being guided the right way. My accomplishments have been being able to finish beauty and massage school, and of course, raising my children.
What have been your struggles as a Latina?
As a Latina, many struggles have been for men to take me serious in operating business opportunities such as negotiating a retail space, a lease contract, and not really being heard. Even though I have owned and operated businesses before, it takes a while until they finally hear the knowledge and expertise, and it gets through to them. I would always be asked if my partner or husband will be joining the meeting. My answer was always “no” and then I would start talking business.
What does Latina Made mean to you?
It means so much! It represents how powerful we are as women and how we need to stand and be heard in a positive light. Shining light on other Latina Women is what it really means to me.
What made you who you are today?
Opening my first book in high school, reading an amazing book, I swear that has changed my life.
What advice would you give to young Latinas in our community?
I would tell them to write down everything they want to become , no matter how big or small they might think it is. And follow what those dreams are. Find who you are!
